Catherine's Annual Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday, is kindness and showing love to others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often discreetly and without words, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will be entertained by young musicians supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to increase availability of music lessons.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.

Generations Gathering

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for community pantries.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.

Among the musical performers will be singer Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
