The winter transfer window is always a period of intense speculation and possible major moves. A number of notable stars find themselves connected to moves out of their current clubs. This article explores some of the major figures who could be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON, this has left the player in contention, reports suggest a major transfer is close. This 25-year-old has a contract featuring a £65 million buy-out clause applicable for a brief period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other options, leaving teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late move.

Marc Guéhi

The England defender has impress for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. As his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, including City and multiple European giants including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. However, a winter departure remains difficult, particularly given the manager's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has found starting minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this campaign. Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany shot-stopper is now as third-choice at Barça under the coach Flick. Having lost his place and undergone an operation, a winter departure seems highly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a potential suitor, but that move currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific England centre-forward has kept finding the net frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of making the England squad. The exciting Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his current contract running down, many Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the youngster to a lengthy agreement but face a race to retain one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his playing style. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to complete a big-money move this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff competition from Real Madrid for a deal priced at around £22 million.
